Features of road and highway lighting

Road lighting requires professional knowledge and experience, strict adherence to standards - GOSTs, SNiPs and SanPiNs. Standards are created for different highways (motorways, federal and regional roads, country roads). To build lighting, it is necessary to calculate and select the optimal luminous flux power in order to meet the requirements of state and industry standards. SNiP contains parameters for the required illumination level, which the driver needs for a quick and adequate assessment of the situation on the roadway, timely response in cases of a dangerous maneuver by another driver or pedestrian.

Roadway illumination requirements:

  • Average horizontal illumination level of highways and regional roads - 6 lm/sq.m.;
  • For roads with a transitional type of pavement - 4 lm/sq.m.;
  • For highways with other road surfaces - 2 lm/sq.m.

Properly executed highway lighting performs the following tasks:

  1. Creates safe driving conditions for vehicles in the evening and at night, as well as in winter, when the road is covered with ice and the braking distance increases.
